The electronic music realm is much more than what one finds in dance clubs. Although electronic music has become synonymous with club music, it is truly a specialized area of music where sound design and manipulation are critical elements of the composition. Not only does the composer have control over the composition itself, but he/she now captains the audio production. I have only begun to tap into the infinite possibilities of sound design and manipulation with a new and innovative composition. The adaptation of the story of creation from the Book of Genesis has resulted in a unique piece.
The composition was designed in such away as to encourage listeners to re-evaluate his or her definition of musical expression as well as broaden their conceptual, aesthetic, and technological notions of the genre of electronic music. The art of storytelling is an integral aspect of this composition. Storytelling has always existed through fables, folk tales, legends and myths. The growth of technology and the diversity of the arts enable me to make the creation story contemporary and futuristic by combining not only music but video and lighting. This truly has been a multimedia experience for me like no other. The piece was written to be performed with three narrators, piano, and pre-recorded music and sound effects driven by a software program called Ableton LIVE. This software program allows full control over these audio clips in a performance setting. Understanding music technology is not a necessity for the audience. It is my intent that this composition reaches into the depths of human emotions by infusing melody, harmony, and memorable themes with the most cutting-edge technology.
