Biography

Adam Reifsteck (b. 1983; Harrisburg, PA) received the 2008 Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo Irving S. Gilmore Emerging Artist Grant to record three of his compositions for chamber ensembles. These recordings have been released on his debut album, “The Burning Within.” The "Gloria" and "Sanctus" of Missa Cor Inflammatus from the album were premiered internationally, in August 2008, by the Western Michigan University Chorale, under the direction of Dr. James Bass, at the Eisenstadt Domkirche (Esienstadt Cathedral) during a liturgical service and in concert at the Bergkirche ("Mountain Church") in Austria.  Adam was selected to write incidental music for the play "Imploding New Buildings," produced by the Western Michigan University Theatre Department for the 2008 Fuse Project.  He also wrote and produced commercial spots, jingles, and audio sales presentations for the Cumulus Broadcasting, Inc. affiliated stations WBCK-AM 930, WBCK-FM 95.3, and WBXX-FM 104.9.

 

In 2006, Mr. Reifsteck co-founded the Siena Arts Program, an outreach of the Music Mission of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Portage, MI, which seeks to unite communities through the celebration of the musical and visual religious arts of all cultures and faith traditions.  The program was awarded the 2008 Kalamazoo Community Foundation John E. Fetzer Institute Grant for its continued impact in the lives of the residents of the Greater Kalamazoo Area.  Adam Reifsteck also participated in the 2005 All-Star Collegiate Choir conducted by Marvin Hamlisch with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. As a member of the Duquesne University Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Brady Allred, Adam performed for the 2003 ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) Convention at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City. He also performed in the world premiere of "Paradise Lost: Opera Electronica," by composer Eric Whitacre and librettist David Noroña, in 2003 at the Angel Orensanz Cultural Center, New York City. As a pianist, Adam Reifsteck performed at the 1999 and 2001 National Catholic Youth Conferences (NCYC) in St. Louis, MO and Indianapolis, IN with attendance of over 25,000 people. In addition, Adam performed in France, Germany, and Austria with the American Music Abroad Blue Tour in July of 2000.

 

Mr. Reifsteck holds a M.M. in Composition from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI and a B.M. in Music Technology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. His former composition teachers include Richard Adams, Robert Ricci, C. Curtis-Smith, Lynn Emberg Purse, David Stock, and Greg Shearer. Mr. Reifsteck is a member of Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), American Composers Forum (ACF), National Pastoral Musicians (NPM), Omicron Delta Kappa, Golden Key Honour Society, and Phi Eta Sigma.
